Pope Francis Wants YOU To Be An Intentional Disciple

The following comes from Frank Weathers:Shouldn’t comes as a shock really, as Jesus Christ wants the same thing from us too. Here’s a little snippet of Andrea Tornielli’s report on Pope Francis’s message to the leadership in South America, and to the episcopate everywhere.Francis concluded his trip to Brazil with another wide-ranging speech to the coordinating committee of the Latin American Episcopal Council (CELAM). But Francis’ words will most certainly resonate beyond the Latin American continent. The Pope asked bishops to give a missionary slant to the daily activities of local Churches, explaining that the “change of structures” (from obsolete ones to new ones) will not be the result of reviewing an organizational flow chart” but will “result from the very dynamics of mission.” Francis recalled that the general assembly of Latin American bishops at Aparecida in 2007 had presented “pastoral conversion” as a “necessity”. The Pope then asked bishops to reflect on some questions with regard to the current state of the Church: “Do we see to it that our work, and that of our priests, is more pastoral than administrative? Who primarily benefits from our efforts, the Church as an organization or the People of God as a whole?”The questions then focused specifically on the laity and their role in the Church: “In practice, do we make the lay faithful sharers in the Mission?” As pastors, bishops and priests are we conscious and convinced of the mission of the lay faithful and do we give them the freedom to continue discerning, in a way befitting their growth as disciples, the mission which the Lord has entrusted to them? Do we support them and accompany them, overcoming the temptation to manipulate them or infantilize them?” His words portray the picture of the Church’s current situation in a number of countries, European ones too.Speaking of the importance of the Church engaging in dialogue with the world around it, Francis referred to what was said at the Second Vatican Council to explain the basis of dialogue with contemporary society: “The joys and hopes, the grief and anguish of the people of our time, especially of those who are poor or afflicted, are the joys and hopes, the grief and anguish of the followers of Christ as well.” The Church needs to be aware of the varied “scenarios and the areopagi involved.” “If we remain within the parameters of our “traditional culture” which was essentially rural, we will end up nullifying the power of the Holy Spirit. God is everywhere: we have to know how to find him in order to be able to proclaim him in the language of each and every culture; every reality, every language, has its own rhythm.”Read it all.Not sure what I mean by the term intentional disciple? Sherry Weddell can help you out there, as can the group of bloggers at Catholic Mom, with their series called theLawn Chair Catechism. Afterall,"The harvest is great but laborers are few!"

Issa Can You See?

I have had a love/hate relationship with Republican Congressman Darryl Issa from Orange County, California. When he is a panelist on Bill Maher's HBO show he can be laid-back, amusing, and disarming.  Makes him more dangerous.  He can play you and then attack.  He becomes a dog with a bone, once he latches on to something he won't let go, no matter what.  Issa's current bone is Ben-Ghazi. He is throwing former  Secretary of State Clinton's name with lots of dark under and over tones. He had the audacity to say on Meet the Press Sunday morning that the public is demanding Congress to delve into this matter.  What a crock of s**t!  The majority of Americans don't care.  They/we are very sorry for the tragic loss of the four Americans killed by the terrorists in Ben-Ghazi.  Period. Satisfied with the nonpartisan investigation by Generals into the actions or non-actions of the Pentagon, CIA, and Secretary of State.  The important part of this is that the families of the deceased aren't clamoring and screaming cover-up, lies, intent. So Darryl Issa, how can you say Americans care about this?  90% of Americans want gun reform!  That's what Americans are worried about.  Congressman Issa, where do you stand on that issue?  Why can't you make noise about that on behalf of what Americans are concerned about?  Maybe Americans are concerned about jobs?  The economy might be on the minds of many.  How the Affordable Care Act might effect them may be on the top three list of Americans' concerns.  Ben-Ghazi???  Most Americans probably don't know where it is, what all the talk is about, and how to spell it, so it's definitely not what most Americans are clamoring about!  So, why is Darryl Issa all over this topic?  Politics at its worst.  Besmirch and tear down the former Secretary of State well before she may announce her run for the Presidency.  Muddy her up.  It's a one-sided brawl.  It's deplorable and, God, how I wish Washington could get out of the mud wrestling ring. In some ways, I find it admirable how the Republican politicians are like swarming bees.  No one gets out of lock step.  Dissent isn't admired or lauded. I have been wracking my brains all weekend trying to come up with anything comparable with the Democrats.  I can't come up with one tenacious bone that the Democrats chomped on.  When I wanted them to go after Chaney, Rice, Bush, Rumsfeld, etc. they kowtowed.  No talk of impeachment hearings, Congressional hearings, nothing. They don't have the one vision like the Republicans. They don't speak with one voice.  They are all over the place.  So Democrats, get together.  Be more like the Republicans.  And Darryl Issa, you are transparent. You are trying to tear down Hilary Clinton because you and your party can't see anyone winning a Presidential bid fair and square.  You are sullying yourself once again. It's a disgrace that this is what you consider important to the American people. Ha! I laugh in your hypocritical face!Sidebars:  The Golden State Warriors are giving their long suffering fans irregular heartbeats.  They won in overtime over the San Antonio Spurs.  Thankfully, I didn't have to watch it and just got updates.  I could barely take the first half. Survivor ended its season.  Watched it.  Happy with the result, though I didn't watch it every week.  I also think it's ridiculous that they become emaciated, skeletons for a chance at a million dollars.  I'm surprised that there hasn't been more long term effects on the contestants on their health. Revenge ended with a two hour season finale.  Thankfully, the ending paid off or I may not have been on board next season. Tiger Woods won the Players Tournament. Still not a fan and can't believe that he found a girlfriend after all we know about his proclivities.  How happy Lindsey Vonn's family must be....The Voice tonight!!!Please re-post or forward to a friend.

YouTube to advertisers: You need us to attract a younger crowd

Google executives say the site is a key way to reach 18- to 34-year-olds, but it didn't announce any major partnerships or revolutionary new programming during an event in New York.NEW YORK--Google on Wednesday made its pitch for advertising on YouTube, telling companies that the site is a vital way to reach the highly desired 18- to 34-year-old demographic and a way to build a base of loyal fans.  However, the company didn't announce any new major projects or partnerships. Instead, executives positioned YouTube as hip and in tune with what younger viewers desire -- something it said its online rivals and traditional cable networks lack. And it noted that the transition to online viewing has already happened."The future is already here," Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt said as he kicked off an event for advertisers and brands on Wednesday at Pier 36 on Manhattan's Lower East Side. "Video is becoming the global shared experience." Executives said during the event that more than one billion unique monthly visitors are watching more than 6 billion hours of video on YouTube every month. For a little perspective, that's equal to nearly 684,000 years of viewing -- or -- an hour a month for every human on Earth. And it's an increase from January's level of 4 billion hours of video watched per month.  A good portion of those viewers are part of what YouTube called "Generation C" -- consumers who grew up with the Internet and are always connected.  "If you want to win with that under 40 generation, you've got to be on YouTube," Margo Georgiadis, president of the Americas for YouTube, said.  YouTube's pitch was part of the Digital NewFronts, a spin on the traditional upfronts where media companies pitch their newest TV shows to advertisers. Digital media companies are seeking to nab a bigger portion of ad spending in a time more content is moving online. Along with YouTube, many other companies such as AOL and CBS Interactive, which owns CNET, held their own events this week.  Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt talks up the company's vision for online video Wednesday in New York during YouTube's Newfront event for advertisers.(Credit: Shara Tibken/CNET) All of these companies, along with Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and many others, are vying for viewers online, and original programming is one way they're attracting consumers. Netflix's "House of Cards" series has proved popular, and the company will follow with other programs such as a new season of "Arrested Development.  YouTube, known for its user-provided video clips, also has pushed to include more curated, premium content on its platform. It has launched dozens of funded channels as part of its initiative to bring original, higher quality content to YouTube. The company last month said it will launch a series of theme weeks to showcase its premium channels, starting with YouTube Comedy Week from May 19 to 25.  YouTube's event for advertisers and brands on Wednesday included stars of some of the more popular YouTube shows, such as Felicia Day from "Geek & Sundry," as well as music acts such as Snoop Lion (formerly Snoop Dogg) and Macklemore.  The company didn't discuss any revolutionary changes to the site or its programming, but it highlighted the success of some of its current popular channels and shared details about their planned programming. One, AwesomenessTV, has been successful targeting the teenage demographic. DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg took the stage to announce that his company earlier on Wednesday reached a deal to acquire AwesomenessTV. "Today's acquisition puts us in the middle of this new arena... We see an incredible array of opportunities." YouTube executives, meanwhile, urged brands -- and even sought the help of "kid president" -- to buy media on the site, sponsor programs, and build their own channels. And they argued there's a real business case for doing so, with a study showing that brands that invest about 10 percent to 15 percent of their media budget on YouTube post a 1 percent to 3 percent sales lift. The 100 largest brands in the world are actively spending money on YouTube, executives said. "We find ourselves in the middle of an incredible momentum," Robert Kyncl, global head of content for YouTube, said at the event Wednesday. "And we believe the momentum will continue. Why? There's an insatiable appetite for online video, and that appetite is our opportunity."Article courtesy of c/net

Ward 4 - You Decide

From all indications it seems that the race for Alderman Ward 4 is close.  Here's a post that may help you decide who to vote for.  There are 3 candidates but only 2 contenders, Kayce Williams and incumbent Allen Hall. Kayce Williams:Spring Hill Little League President and former Treasurer-Very dedicated to the Little League.  Would she have the time to juggle 2 time consuming civic responsibilities?  Which one is the higher priority, SHLL President or Alderman Ward 4?CFO of Firstrate, Inc and AIM LLC- Not sure what Firstrate is and can't find any internet resources.Secretary of the Spring Hill Parks and Recreation Commission-This one's a bit baffling.  She states in  the alderman Q&A's that Parks and Rec. is her passion and a huge priority but when a resolution to support the McCutcheon Greenway was voted on by the Commission she sits on she abstained and sited property owner rights.  This is exactly what Mayor Dinwiddie said in the Planning Commission meeting as they voted to approve a plat without the greenway included.  This greenway project has been a high priority for quite sometime involving both the Town of Thompson's Station and SH. Could her association with developer Donnie Cameron have anything to do with it?  Speaking of Cameron, he was spotted around the city putting up large campaign signs for her.  From what I understand one does not want to beholden to Mr. Cameron, he will expect payback of some sort.  Ms. Williams' treasurer is Leigh Gillig who happens to be Donnie Cameron's sole real estate agent for Autumn Ridge.  Ms. Gillig was Mayor Dinwiddie's treasurer when he ran for Mayor 4 years ago.  Ms. Gillig also donated $500 to the Mayoral campaign of Rick Graham.   To further prove my point about her ties to developers, as I was canvassing a neighborhood I came across several empty lots with her campaign signs.  Empty residential lots with campaign signs, hmmm!Allen Hall:Transportation Advisory Committee Chairman- This committee was formed at the end of 2011.  This committee worked diligently to create a transportation Capital Improvement Plan which prioritizes transportation projects within the City.  After several years of neglect by Mayor Dinwiddie, the TAC works closely with the Nashville Area MPO, which recommends transportation projects to TDOT.   Mr. Hall and the other members (Duda and Wurth) of this committee all volunteered to serve on the TAC.Website Sterring Committee Chairman-The difference in what the website looked like 4 months ago to today is daylight and dark.  Job well done.Board of Zoning Appeals- This board has the power to hear and decide appeals and requests regarding the City's Zoning Ordinance.  Mr. Hall was the only member to vote against special treatment for Wal-Mart when they requested smaller parking spaces.  Technology Upgrades- Mr. Hall took on the project to make all BOMA meeting packets electronic.  These packets were delivered to each BOMA member via a 3 ring binder with supporting documentation for each ordinance or resolution.  He trained City staff on how to convert hard copy documents into a digital format to be shared by the BOMA.  This also cut down the costs of having police officers hand deliver all the packets to the BOMA members homes.  He also helped the Police Department save thousands of dollars on the new PD 911 Dispatch System.  By being tech savvy he was able to go through the proposal and cut out unnecessary equipment and also identified additional equipment that was necessary.   Transparency- Mr. Hall did not sign a confidentiality non-disclosure document related to Festival Tennessee.  Related to the new website, meeting minutes are now available that include the voting record of the BOMA.  He has stated that one of his goals is to provide the citizens with an easier mechanism to view those voting records via the new website.Through this campaign cycle I've heard some good things about Ms. Williams.  She seems nice and personable but her associations with specific developers and specific realtors are suspect. The choice is easy for me, Allen Hall is a proven leader and diligent servant for the citizens of Spring Hill.
